How To Draw A Chair Step By Step

Intimidated by the thought of drawing a chair? Don’t be! Drawing a chair isn’t hard at all once you understand basic concepts and know what to look out for. With a few visual aids, you can be creating a beautiful chair in no time.

Section1: Start With A Box Base

First, start with a box of the desired size. Put a diagonal line from the top left corner to the bottom right corner and a diagonal line from the top right corner to the bottom left. This is the outline of the chair. Starting with these basic lines makes knowing the shape of the chair much easier.

Then, measure the top of your box. Make sure it’s the right width for the seat. Once that’s done, draw along the line. It should create two squares. This is the box base of the chair.

Section 2: Blocking Out The Structure

Now, we’ll move onto the legs of the chair. Take a few minutes to do some sketches. Don’t worry too much about being perfect–you’ll be able to erase anything you don’t like later.

When sketching out the legs, there are a few key points to keep in mind. Look for the flow lines between the legs: They should all point in the same direction for a sense of movement and flow. Make sure the legs are evenly spaced out, and leave some space between the chair and the floor.

Section 3: Add Details and Clean Up

Now it’s time to move onto the detailed work. Start by drawing in the arms and the seat back. Again, make sure the lines are flowing in the same direction. Once the arms and back are done, draw in the details on the legs–things like carvings and curves.

Once all the details are in, it’s time to clean up the drawing. Erase any extra lines and make any final adjustments, then step back and take a look at your handiwork.

Section 4: Give It Some Color
