The holiday season is an exciting time of year and nothing says Christmas cheer quite like crafting your own festive masterpiece. Whether you’re an artistic prodigy or a complete noob when it comes to drawing, creating a classic Christmas tree is doable – and lots of fun! Here’s a simple guide on how to draw a beautiful Christmas tree step-by-step.

Grab your supplies before you get down to business: good quality papers, pencils, drawing pens or markers, ruler and some erasers. In terms of your paper, go for something with at least 80 gsm – thicker papers work best for crisp lines.

Next up, decide on the basics of your Christmas tree design. Start by making a vertical line with your pencil. This will be the tree trunk, so make it as wide or as thin as you want. Draw a vertically symmetrical triangle at the top of the tree trunk, forming the tip of the tree. This triangle will be the tree’s “canopy”. You can adjust the size of the canopy by making it wider or narrower as you like.

Erase the horizontal line at the bottom of your tree trunk. Now it’s time to add some greenery. Use your pen or marker to draw shapes at the top of the tree trunk with curved lines. Make them slanted, bendy and symmetrical to elicit the feel of a Christmas tree. Repeat this pattern – the same jagged shapes and lines, but in reverse – down the other side of the trunk. This creates the luscious, full foliage of your tree.
