Feeling like your drawing skills aren’t quite up to par? Drawing trees doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With a few simple tips and tricks, you can master the art of tree-drawing. So grab a pencil and piece of paper and let’s get started!

The first step to drawing a tree is to practice sketching the basic shape. Trees come in all sizes, shapes, and branches, so start by sketching the simplest version—a tree trunk and two outstretched branches. Draw the trunk first, starting at the base and going up as straight as you can. Then, draw two branches angling off each side of the trunk. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just focus on writing down the main structure of the tree.

Once you have the basic shape down, make it look more realistic. Add some texture to the trunk by lightly scribbling with the pencil. This will give your tree a more realistic look. Next, draw some small branches coming off the main branches. Then, draw a few more “twigs” off of those. This will not only add realism to your tree but it will also give it a more natural feel.

The next step is to add some leaves. Draw a few big “clumps” of leaves on the branch tips. This will give the effect of a tree in full bloom. Then, draw some smaller clumps scattered around the rest of the branches. Make sure the leaves are light and airy. This will create a realistic look without being too heavy or clunky.
