How to Draw a Bat for Kids: Creative Art Instructions
If your kids can’t get enough of cute little bats, this article will teach them how to draw one! Drawing a bat can help bond the family and is a great way to get creative and imaginative. There’s no better way for kids to explore their creative side than learning to draw a simple bat!
Materials Needed
Your budding artists will need a few items from home to get started. All you need are two medium-size pieces of paper, some markers or crayons, and a little bit of imagination:

Step 1: Sketching the Outline
The first step to drawing a bat is to sketch the outline. All you have to do is draw a slim oval shape in the middle of the paper—this will be the bat’s body. On the left side of the oval, draw out the bat’s head, and then draw two thin wing feathers on both sides of the oval. Now your sketch is ready!
Step 2: Adding Color
This step is a lot of fun! Take your crayons or markers and start filling in some of the details. For example, color in the body of the bat, shading lightly with the same color. Then add two big eyes and small ears near the head, using your favorite colors!
Now it’s time to color in the wings. Start with a light shade of whatever color you’d like and begin to fill in each feather. Make sure to create light but distinct lines within each feather so that it looks like a real bat wing.
Step 3: Finishing Touches
The finishing touches of your masterpiece will make it look just like the real thing! Take your favorite shade of black and create some thin stripes on the wings, connecting the feather lines. Make some horizontal and diagonal lines. Be creative!
Now, add the claws. On the bottom edges of each wing, add a small curved triangle—these will be the little claws that hold the bat in midair as it flies.
Step 4: Standing Out From the Crowd
This last step will add just the right amount of pizzazz to your drawing! Take your favorite color and add a bit of extra flare. Using your crayon or marker, draw circles or organic shapes of various sizes with edges cut off—all around the wings and body. These shapes will make your bat stand out among all of its peers.
Step 5: Admiring Your Creation
