How To Draw A Big Truck

Who doesn’t love a big truck? They’re the lifeblood of worksites, and even if you’re not a heavy-duty mechanic yourself, they’re still real-life behemoths that you have to respect. Drawing one is surprisingly easy once you break it down, and if you take a bit of time you’ll be able to recreate one of these metal giants all on your own. Here are the essential steps for taking your truck from a blank page to a masterpiece.

Start with the Chassis

The chassis is the skeleton for the truck, so it’s got to look strong and sturdy. Start by drawing a long rectangle—this will be the ‘floor’ of the truck. Then, draw a curved line on either end, leading up from the floor of the truck. Between the two curved lines, draw two shorter straight lines for the walls of the truck. Once you’ve done that, draw a few horizontal lines connecting the walls together. These will be the ribs of the truck, and what holds it up. Your chassis is complete.

Draw the Cab

At the very front of the truck is the cab. It’s a rectangular box shape, where most trucks have a windshield, lights, grill, and bumper. Draw a tall rectangle slightly above the chassis of the truck—this will be the cab. Add two smaller rectangles on either side, and a square on the front end. These will be the windshield and windows. Then, draw a small upside-down-U shape above the windshield. This is the roof. Lastly, draw the bumper and grill of the truck by adding two angled curves in the front square.

Adding Wheels

Now it’s time to make our truck roll. Starting from the cab, draw two rectangles on either side of the chassis for the front wheel wells. Then, draw two circles for the wheels coming off the wheel wells. Don’t forget to add one on the front corners of the truck—these are called wheel cutaways. Last are the back wheels—draw the wheel wells first, then draw two circles each. Finally, put in a few wheel bolts and you’re ready to get rolling.

Adding Details

To make your truck look even more realistic, add a few more stylistic touches. Start by drawing a curved line running along the side of the truck starting from the cab’s roof and running until it meets the wheel cutaways. This is the truck’s belt line. Next, add a line of rivets along the chassis and the wheel wells. Finally, draw the handle of the truck’s door using two black dots. And with that, your big truck drawing is complete.
