How To Draw A Chef Hat

Drawing a chef hat might sound intimidating, but with a few easy steps, you too can rock a kitchen-worthy lid. To start, all you’ll need is a piece of paper, some markers, and a bit of patience. Let’s get cooking!

To begin, imagine you’re looking at the chef hat from the profile view. This means you’ll want to start by sketching out two tall, lightly curving lines that slope away from each other at the top to create a half circle. This is the brim of your hat, so draw the lines around five inches long and make sure to leave a tiny vertical line right in the middle.

Next, you’ll want to draw out the top part of your hat. A traditional chef hat is quite deep, so draw a line straight across the page that is relatively short-no more than three inches or so. Leave a small gap at the edge of this line and then draw another line next to it that is slightly curved, forming a cylinder-like shape. This covers up the back of your chefs’ head!

Now, you are ready for the detail work! To add the the hat’s trademark puffed top, draw a jagged line just above the cylinder you made in the previous step. Starting at the edge of the brim, draw a curved line that arcs up and around itself to create a puffy pointed top. To add a bit of definition, you can draw a few dashed lines at the bottom of this half-circle to create a pleated look. Finally, for the finishing touches, draw a bowed band around the brim of the hat, as well as a few ribbons underneath the brim.

At this point, you can grab some colouring supplies and make your chef hat come to life! Markers are the best tool for getting vibrant, vivid colours. Start with the brim, adding some red, whites or blues to it before moving onto the top. To finish up, give the puffed top some shading with some darker hues and add a few black lines to the band and ribbons. Voila, your tasty topper is all ready to have you cooking up a storm!

Now that you’ve got your chef hat drawn, give it life by adding a few of your own twist. Drawing a special logo, like the one on your restaurant’s chef’s uniform, can make it one of a kind. Or, for a more creative look, use the brim to display the ingredients list of your special dish.

Adding some texture to the hat is a great way to give it a more professional look. Use light and dark grey, or brown, shades to make the brim appear as if it’s made from fabric. With a few light dabs at the brim and ridges of the hat, you can make it look like it’s made out of leather or fur. You can also add some extra definitions along the pleats.

Before you know it, you’ll have a beautifully crafted chef hat that is sure to impress. Try your hand at drawing the hat on different types of materials like card stock or craft felt for more creative results. No matter what materials you choose, with a few easy steps, you too can be the master of your kitchen with a unique chef hat made just for you!
