How To Draw A Demogorgon

1. Get Your Materials Ready

To draw a Demogorgon you’ll need a few materials. A great set to invest in is a set of colored pencils for a vibrant depiction, some sketching graphite pencils for lines and depth, and some paper of your choosing to create your masterpiece on – regular printer paper is fine if you don’t want to invest in art paper just yet. You’ll also need a picture of the four-armed being with the crown of tentacles and teeth. You won’t be able to capture all the details and subtleties of the being if you don’t have a reference.

Maybe you know an artist who can sketch it for you, or find one online. There are plenty of high quality Google images for you to copy. Make sure you’re not infringing on anyone’s copyright though – take care to credit your sources if you’re using a copyrighted photo.

Once you have your materials together, it’s time to get started.

2. Sketching the Basics

Now you’re ready to start your drawing. The best way to begin is by sketching out your outline. The Demogorgon is a four-armed being, almost like a human with some salient differences. Its human-like frame has a flared head with eight tentacles topped with teeth.

Therefore, it’s important to draw the head and arms first, sketching lightly with your graphite pencil. Don’t press too hard – if you need to erase anything later it will be harder to do so. Once you have the outline you can fill in the details with small strokes.

Do this gradually, moving outwards from the center of the body. Draw the tentacles, the position of the teeth, the separate spikes and other details of the being. Pay attention to the details, moving down the body, using proportions and symmetry to make sure your work is as realistic as possible.

3. Establishing Color and Shade

Now that you have the basic outline of your Demogorgon, it’s time to fill it with colors and shading – giving it its creepy, distinct look. This is where your colored pencils come in handy.

You don’t have to use all of them – as long as you use light and dark colors that contrast, you can make your Demogorgon appear alive. Start with the light colors and move your way up to the darker colors. Use gradual shading to bring out the colors, making sure you’re even throughout the drawing.

If you’re not sure what colors to use or what combinations will look best, the internet has plenty of reference photos. Take a look there, or consult with an artistic friend, to get a better idea of what colors will work best for you.

4. Finishing Touches

You’re almost there. Congrats! Now it’s just the finer stuff – making sure everything is this way and that, perfecting the details to bring the power of your Demogorgon to life.

Start with the facial features, using thin eyelashes and expressions to enhance the emotion of your being. Help its eyes come alive by emphasizing definition in the irises and pupil. Make sure the costume is consistent, too – don’t forget about the teeth and the knuckles! Draw the lines that structures the drawing to increase depth and size, and add highlights to the drawing.

When you feel that the drawing is complete, it’s time to erase all the unnecessary lines from your graphite sketch. Stand back and look at it from a distance, to make sure you’re happy with how everything looks as a whole. At this point, you’re ready to display your finished piece. Enjoy!
