How To Draw A Realistic Fox
Ever wanted to add a dash of wild life to your artwork? Drawing a realistic fox can be a great way to do it – and it isn’t nearly as hard as it might seem at first! With a little bit of practice, you’ll be able to bring your fox sketches right to life.
Gather Your Supplies
The first step to creating anything is gathering your supplies – and believe it or not, your drawer’s arsenal can be surprisingly minimal. All you need is a couple sheets of paper, a pencil and an eraser. As long as you have those basics, you’re ready to begin!
Outline the Fox’s Main Features
Before you get ahead of yourself, take a glance at an image of a fox before you begin. What you’re looking for is the main features you need to include: it’s pointed ears, it’s snout, it’s fluffy fur and its tail. Then, it’s time to get sketching. Easily draw out the frame of the fox in broad strokes, focusing on the structure and shape. Then, begin to refine the shapes, making sure to keep the overall look in mind.
Begin Adding Details
Once you have the basic contours of the fox down, you can start to add some detail. Start with the fur – use sketching and shading to create a more realistic texture. Then, you can add small touches like the fox’s eyes and nose, to bring your drawing to life.
Double Check and Make Adjustments
Once you’ve finished adding detail, it’s time to double check. Make sure the fox looks as you planned – is it too small? Too big? Does something look off? If so, don’t worry – that’s what the eraser is for. Make any adjustments or tweaks you think are necessary to perfect the picture.
Shading to Finish off the Drawing
To take it to the next level and make the fox really come alive, you can add shading. Shade lightly with your pencil, creating depth and movement. Where the fox’s fur naturally falls, try to mimic that in your drawing – it should look like the fox is jumping right off the page.
Practice Makes Perfect!
Keep at it! The more you practice, the better your fox drawings will be. With each attempt, you’ll learn something new. Pretty soon, the fox you drew will look just as good as a photograph – your friends and family won’t be able to tell the difference!
Don’t Forget to Have Fun!
Above all, have fun! Drawing a fox is a unique adventure, so let yourself explore, try new techniques and make mistakes. The most important part is to enjoy the process – and your fox drawing will turn out amazing in no time.
