How To Draw Simple Turkey

Drawing a simple turkey just got a whole lot easier. Even the most amateur artist can make a beautiful, albeit simple, turkey with just a few simple tools, tools you can find in any home. I’m talking about a pencil, some paper and a bit of guidance. It’s a cinch to make a stunning turkey when you follow the technique I’m about to explain.

Gather Your Materials

You won’t have to go shopping or scrounging up extra supplies. Just grab some paper, a pencil or preferred writing utensil and maybe a smidgeon of colorful markers or crayons. You don’t even need to be a fantastic artist. Just watch me draw, using level-appropriate techniques that the rusty old-timer or nimble-fingered novice alike can appreciate.

Draw Simple Shapes

We’ll start with some quick and easy shapes. Draw two bigger circles near the top to craft a head. Then, draw two smaller circles near the bottom. And weave in three triangles in between the circles to create the tail. Don’t worry if it looks a little deformed. We’ll mold and shape it in mere seconds.

Create the Details

Now that you have the general gist of the key design elements down, you can start crafting subtle details. Add decorative feathers and shape the feathers with a sketch-like style. Add a few more fancy feathers for the tail, some eyes, and a beak. Instead of the regular yellow-orange look of the turkey, why not spice it up with a different color? If you need more specific colors to liven up the bird, you can use the marker or crayon.

Closing Touches

Once you have the colors you want, you can start binding the feathers together. Use a few curved lines to connect the feathers. It’s like a glue that holds everything together and builds the look of the turkey. The tail is almost done, but add one last element – the feet. Yup, add two triangle-like feet that have a few distinct lines, colors and outlines.

Put it all Together

The final stage is to add an outline to the turkey. It’s like any piece of art – the outline is the finishing touch to make it look extra amazing, even if it’s just simple. All you’ve got to do is draw a line around it, not too thick or too thin, and that’s it. You’ve just created a simple, yet dazzling, turkey.

Add Some Color

Once you have your outline, it’s time to color it. Simplicity can be the key to many things and to a great-looking turkey, it only takes a few colors. Add a bit of tan, some yellow-orange, and even a rustic red-brown to bring the bird to life. Add these colors and you’re all done.

Draw the Texture

To really make this turkey stand out, you’ll want to add texture to the feathers. This can be done with a few extra detailed lines. Wispy, curved, and jagged lines can illustrate the texture of the feathers, and will have your drawing truly looking like a turkey.

Craft the Wings

Your gorgeous turkey is almost done! Now it’s time for the wings. Your wings can be as simple or detailed as you want – draw two curved lines and two small circles, two feathers for each wing, or even some jagged lines. Whatever shape you choose, your wings will give the turkey some extra life.
