Step One: Gather Your Supplies
Don’t worry if you’re not an art pro—with just a few simple supplies, you can easily draw an eagle that looks as majestic as the one on the Mexican flag. Get yourself a set of fine-tip markers, a compass, and a ruler. Make sure you also have a 12-inch-by-12-inch blank paper to draw on.
Step Two: Map Out Your Design
Next, use the ruler and pencil for light strokes on the page to make a broad outline of the eagle you want to draw. Start by drawing a curved line diagonally from the top left to the bottom right. Then draw an upside-down triangle in the middle to create the eagle’s beak, followed by two curved lines by the beak’s sides to create the eye. You can also make two outward-curving lines at the bottom of the bird’s head to create its wings. With the ruler, draw two vertical lines on both left and right sides of the eagle’s body to create its tail feathers.
Step Three: Add Details
Once you have the map in place, it’s time to start adding details. With the markers, draw triangle shapes on parts of the eagle’s wings and head to create its feathers. To create the eagle’s legs, draw four lines from the body and angle them down in a V shape to the ground. Use the compass to draw round circles at the end of the legs for the talons.
Step Four: Color the Flag
Using the markers, color the outside area of the eagle green, to represent the Mexican flag. Then color a rectangle within the eagle’s body to represent the three colors of the Mexican flag—green, white, and red. Finally, draw the top of the rectangle in red, and then two vertical lines down the middle in white.
Step Five: Final Touches
To make the eagle look alive and full of energy, draw its open wings wide, with individual feathers and patterns to give it an organic look. Make sure to draw the feathers around the eagle’s torso, legs, and head for them to look more realistic. Add details by drawing slightly curved lines around its body and using light colors for shadows and highlights.
Step Six: Frame It
Finally, to frame your masterpiece, draw an outline around the design with thicker markers, so the colors look true and vibrant. If you want to get creative, you can draw in additional objects like a cactus or a sombrero in the background to give your art even more pizzazz!
Step Seven: Let It Shine
Once your artwork is fully finished, you can mount it on your wall and show it off to all your family and friends. Just remember, if the eagle looks like it’s soaring off to victory, it means you did a great job!
Step Eight: Add Depth With Shades
To make your eagle even more realistic, you’ll need to give it more depth by using shades. Use the markers with lighter colors to make the background subtle and uniform. Then, use the markers with darker colors to give the eagle more definition and physicality. Don’t be afraid to play around with the marker colors to make the perfect image—it’s entirely up to you!
Step Nine: Create Realism
To add realism to your drawing, make sure to draw the eagle’s feathers in fine detail. Add grooves and ruffles in the feathers to give the eagle life and motion, just like it would appear on the real flag. Draw the feathers in a variety of sizes and shapes to make the eagle look natural and organic.
Step Ten: Outline It
Finally, outline the eagle with a thicker marker to give it an even more impressive look. Make sure to trace the edges of each feather to add more definition and bring the eagle to life. With a few strokes of the marker, you’ll have an eagle that looks just as majestic as the one on the Mexican flag!
