Are you looking to draw the Grinch face but feeling a bit daunted by the challenge? Drawing the Grinch face doesn’t have to be scary–in fact it can be surprisingly easy! All you need to do is take it step by step, and you’ll have a Grinch sketch that would make Dr. Seuss proud. Here’s the formula for creating your own Grinch masterpiece.
Step 1: Add the Eyes
The Grinch’s signature look is his harsh yellow eyes, so this is the first place to start. Locate the middle of your paper and draw two round eyes with a beady black center. Make sure they’re close together, and don’t forget to make them a bit wonky–no perfect circles here! Once you’re done, add a few whiskers that fan outwards from the corners of the eyes to give the Grinch that menacing, scraggly look he’s so famous for.
Step 2: Sketch the Nose and Mouth
Start with the nose: draw a small half-moon shape just below the eyes. This doesn’t need to be perfect, so just make sure it’s kind of wide and pointed at the top. Now you can add the Grinch’s iconic snarling mouth. Start by drawing a downward curve for the upper lip, then add an even longer curve for the tip of the chin. Finally, draw a U-shape for the lower lip and connect it to the sides of the mouth. Voila–the Grinch’s face is starting to take shape!
Step 3: Add the Ears
The Grinch has huge, floppy ears that are almost as prominent as his eyes. To draw them, start by sketching two thin circles in line with the eyes. Connect them with two slightly curved lines that come to a point at the bottom of the circles. Then, draw two curved lines coming outwards from the circles on either side to give the ears a floppy look. At this point, you should already have a recognizable Grinch face!
Step 4: Fill in the Details
To finish your drawing, add the Grinch’s signature dark green fur. Start by sketching wavy fur-like lines on the forehead and cheeks, and draw a line down the center of the Grinch’s face that dips a bit between the eyes and the nose. Finally, you can use curved lines to fill in the ears, giving them a hairy look. Once you’re done, step back and admire your work–you’ve just drawn the Grinch face. Congratulations!
Step 5: Refine Your Drawing
If you want to take your drawing to the next level, all you need to do is refine the lines and give everything a bit of shading. Start by using a soft pencil to smudge the fur-like lines, then move on to adding dark and light shading to give the Grinch’s face more dimension. Then, use an eraser to add texture and contrast to the eyes, nose, and mouth–it’ll make your drawing look much more lifelike. With just a little bit of work, your Grinch drawing will be ready for Santa’s naughty list!
