Section 1: Preparations
Now, let’s get ready to draw the Grinch! Drawing the Grinch requires patience, dexterity, and of course, pencils, erasers, and paper. First, it is important to understand the anatomy of the character. The Grinch is a small creature with a wide body, a wide grin, beady eyes, and bright green fur. Before you start drawing, it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the sketch of the Grinch and practice the details of his body and facial features.
Next, let’s get out all the tools you need for drawing. You will need pencils, erasers, regular paper, markers and other colored pencils. It is important to choose the right type of paper, one that is not too smooth or too rough. Depending on how you want your drawing to end up, thicker paper may be better for detailed and vivid artwork.
Now your drawing supplies are ready and you are familiar with the Grinch’s anatomy, let’s move to the drawing!
Section 2: Outlines
To begin your Grinch drawing, start with the sketches of the outlines. Begin by drawing a circle, divide it into halves, then draw a curved line below. This will form the basic shape and structure of the Grinch’s head and body. Now, on the top of the circle, draw two curved lines that form the ears. From the lower half of the circle draw left longer arms and right shorter arms. And finally at the bottom, draw the legs and feet.
Now here is the tricky part, let’s add details to the Grinch’s face and body. Draw two small circles on the face which will be the eyes and add an upside down U on the curves of the eyes which symbolizes laughter. Now, draw the curved line on top of the head to form the Grinch’s sneaky look. Don’t forget to add the fur outlines. To do this, draw marks around the Grinch’s body in a random pattern.
Section 3: Shade the Grinch
Let’s make this Grinch look alive! Start shading the character from the head. Darken the eyes, ears, and the lines around the eyes. Shade the fur outlines lightly and evenly. Now it’s time to bring his hands and feet to life. Use a darker shade of green to draw the outlines of the hands and feet. Draw small circles around both of them to give the Grinch a verminous look.
After that, fill his body with darker shades of green. To give the sketch more depth and dimension, draw few available lines in but make sure they are not too much visible. Add a few other details like the heart shape present in the middle of the Grinch’s stomach using red and pink shades of markers. And there you have it, your adorable Grinch is ready!
Section 4: Color & Decoration
Let’s start colorizing the drawing! Give the Grinch his signature green color and use light and dark shades to bring the drawing to life. To make it more fun, let’s give him some decorations. Use colored markers to draw balloons and stars around the Grinch’s head and body and add small swirls of golden stars around. Once you’re done, you can also add a few other fun elements in the drawing like a Christmas hat or presents.
The final step is to outline the character with a black marker. Make sure you do this with a light hand and that the lines blend in with the other parts of the drawing. And voilà! The Grinch is ready just in time for the holidays!
