Drawing Zombies – The Basics
Frighteningly fun and delightfully dead, drawing zombies is an enjoyable creative project for all ages. The good news is that it isn’t as hard as it looks – with a few easy steps, anyone can draw cartoon zombies. Here’s how!
Start with a Zombie Body
Drawing a zombie is much like drawing any other caricature – it’s just a matter of exaggerating body shape and features. Start by drawing a shambling figure – it doesn’t need to be anything complicated. Just a lumpy, simple outline will do the trick. Once you have the basic body shape, the rest of your zombie drawing will come together.
Time for Some Gory Details
Once you have the figure of your zombie, it’s time to add some gory details. Zombies are usually portrayed as decaying, so start with the skin. Give them gnarly, patchy clumps of flesh, punctuated with protruding bones. You can also add some crevices and cracks – just make sure to keep them random and unsymmetrical.
Now it’s time for the eyes. Zombies are generally depicted as missing eyes – or having at least one eye missing. If you’d rather keep both eyes intact, you can make them sunken, dark and lifeless. You can add some jagged teeth, torn clothes and decaying hair too.
Go Wild with Color
Coloring your zombie will really bring your creation to life – and make it much more ghoulish. Choose a pale grayish color for the skin, and use darker shades to bring out the details. Don’t be afraid to go wild – add spots of green and yellow for a more ghoulish look. You can even add tattered clothes and bloody stains if you want to add a bit more realism.
Put Finishing Touches on Your Zombie
Finally, you can add some extra details to complete your zombie. Give them chipped nails, bandages and torn accessories to make them look even more dead. You can even add a bit of fog or mist if you want to make the scene more eerie. When you’re done, you’ll have a zombie drawing that you can be proud of.
Getting Creative with Your Zombies
Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can start to experiment with different designs. Give your zombie exaggerated features, switch up the colors, or add modern touches like piercings and tattoos. It’s up to you – unleash your creativity and make these zombies your own.
Adding Action to Your Zombies
Drawing a zombie doesn’t have to be a static activity. Put your imagination to work and come up with some fun scenarios for your creations. Let them shamble through a graveyard, lurk in a misty alleyway, or attack a helpless victim – the possibilities are endless!
